According to a person familiar with the matter, the Biden administration plans to add Bitmain-linked artificial intelligence company Sophgo to the U.S. Commerce Department's restricted trade list because the company's TSMC-made chips were illegally incorporated into Huawei's artificial intelligence processors.
Sophgo, an artificial intelligence company linked to Bitmain, said in a statement that it had never had any direct or indirect business relationship with Huawei and had provided TSMC with a detailed investigation report. Previously, it was reported that the US Department of Commerce launched an investigation into TSMC earlier this month to confirm whether it provided chips to Huawei, and then TSMC stopped supplying chips to Sophgo, an artificial intelligence company affiliated with Bitmain.
